New Knit along and lots of great Magazines

Hi Everyone!
There seems to be a lot of interest in the “Topsy Turvy Inside-Out Knitted Toys” book.  So I thought we could do a knit- along using this book. For anyone who hasn’t seen the book, you can go and look at the great video on You Tube showing quite a few of the knitting animals from the it..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9dWIPK9H3A

I also have a couple of them knitted up at the store, thanks to Cathy!!

So here are the details...you must buy, or have already bought a copy of the book, and we can each pick which one we want to work on, and then work on them together. We can help each other with any problems we come across.

This is not a class,  just all of us knitting on the same things and helping each other out. I would also appreciate it if you bought most of the yarn from me. We will start on Thursday afternoon, August the 1st.  1 pm till 3 pm.  If you are interested and need a copy of the book, please let me know as I still have a couple but can certainly get more!!

Also, several new magazines have arrived at the store including Knit Scene , Simple Knits, Spin-off and the latest Create and Decorate.

I also received a great new book for all you Rug Hookers by Gene Sheppard  called  “Prepared to Dye.”

So do come in and check them out!!

Happy knitting and rug hooking to all

The Purple Sock
hooked jewellery
A fun class involving exploration, imagination, innovation and creativity, featuring hooking combined with beadwork, embellishments and handwork. You don’t need to be a master rug hooker or a professional seamstress to create a distinctive bespoke hooked accessory.  You just need a sense of adventure, some good materials and a little bit of patience.
There will be lots of samples to inspire your designs, basic supplies and tools....and you will learn various tried-and-true finishing methods.  Most people should be able to leave after one day of class wearing a new necklace!
Some handouts will be provided.

1-day class:  in this class we will create a basic necklace (several styles to choose from, similar to those pictured), and practice some of the various techniques used in making hooked jewellery.  Towards the end of the day, there will be a bit of a trunk show, featuring many samples of other styles of hooked jewellery, more complex necklaces, barrettes, belts, headbands, etc., to inspire future projects and show some of the possibilities.
Participants will receive a one-of-a-kind kit with patterns and ample supplies to make two unique necklaces (one fairly simple and one more advanced).

2-day class: incorporates the same content as a 1-day class, in addition to working on a second project and spending time discussing more complex construction methods, including deconstructing the items in the trunk show.

AJ’s Christmas stockings
My Auntie Jean (Armstrong) made hand-hooked Christmas Stockings for my sisters and me in 1977, and she continued to make 150+ stockings over the next 24 years.  Keeping this tradition alive in our family was the reason I learned how to hook in 1999.
Our Christmas stockings are hooked using a type of creative stitch to create unique designs – think rug hooking meets counted cross stitch…
All participants will receive a copy of my detailed instruction booklet All in the Family, an 8-page colour booklet with full-size paper patterns for both the stocking itself and the lining.  Class fee also includes a piece of even-weave burlap large enough to hook 2 stockings.  I will send out a complete supply list prior to the class.
1-day class: In the morning, the focus will be on the special hooking techniques for creating the motifs in these stockings and getting everyone started working on their first stocking.  In the afternoon, the final assembly will be demonstrated, from start to finish, using a sample (that I have hooked prior to the class).

Great Summer Top

Hello everyone!

Every once in a while ( well, quite often! to tell you the truth, lol!),  a great yarn comes into the shop and I just have to drop everything and make something out of it!

And such was the case with this Berocco yarn called "Maya"....it is a light weight chainette yarn, 85% Pima cotton and 15% baby alpaca, fabulous to knit with, and it comes in several soft summer-y shades and here is the result! I almost didn't want to take it off to showcase it on our lovely "Lucinda"mannequin, as I was enjoying wearing it so much! It is great with a summer skirt, or crops or a great cotton dress...it is so comfy and flattering with the shorter front and the waterfall sides and back.

Plus, it knit up in no time at all! A quick, fabulous summer project....so come on in, choose
your colours and be wearing it by next week!

Happy Knitting!
