Hi Everyone Christmas is coming faster than we would like. I can't believe it is only a month away!! The good news is the Christmas teas are back . I now have two black Christmas teas and two fruit and herb teas.  These will only be here until Christmas so get them now!!  I have also received a shipment of these very cute little candy cane tea infusers .  These along with the Christmas teas  would make a great stocking stuffer, teacher or hostess gift. 24 Days of Fun!!   Hello everyone!     Yes, I know I can overdo it sometimes with the exclamation marks!! But wow!! Great Canadian Yarns just keep on coming!!

Hello everyone,   I am not certain how a yarn can be Vivid and subtle at the same time!! But this one is!   Beautifully artisan dyed in Calgary,it is just stunning...in both Merino with nylon and Merino with nylon and a bit of sparkle, these lovely skeins will knit up into gorgeous socks, shawls, and tops. The feel of it sliding off the needles and through your hands is just amazing! Some of the skeins have that added bling to them with a sparkly thread which doesn't seem to show up in the photos .   I hope you get a chance to drop in soon just to see ( and FEEL!) this new Canadian yarn..     Happy knitting, Lynn

Azel Sweater

A super quick and really cute knit!!

Hello everyone,    This darling little sweater/poncho is blowing up the Internet! It is EVERYWHERE! There are literally hundreds of them completed on Ravelry.    So, of course, the Purple Sock fairies had to knit one up for the shop, lol! This piece is fabulous over tights, leggings, jeans and is a super stylish way to both bring in the fall, and head into winter ( which is coming quickly my friends!)   The purchased pattern on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/azel-pullover is a bargain as it comes in sizes from toddler to adult,  and it knits up so quickly in great bulky yarns...King Cole and Bravo Big, both 100% acrylic, for ease of care...   Hope to see you soon,   Happy Knitting, Lynn

2 new knit alongs coming up!!

Two new great knit alongs!!

Hi Everyone Well Fall is here even though it doesn't  feel that way with this great warm weather we have been having. Just wanted to let you know about two great knit alongs we have coming up. Sorry for the late notice on the first one . It will be starting next week. Please note these are both knit alongs not classes, There is no charge to join us but I do ask that you buy the yarn from me.  As they are held during business hours I am sometimes busy with customers and you might have to wait if you have questions about what we are doing. Usually there are other people doing it that are most helpful. As a knit along I will be knitting the same project along with you. In most cases I have not knit it before. Uppsala Slippers  This is  a great quick and easy project  that would be perfect for Christmas presents!! These are made with 2 colours of Briggs and Little Tuffy . If you have made socks in the past you will have no problem with this pattern. This will be a two week knit along as this is a quick project. Here is the link to the pattern so take a look and see what you think.  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/uppsala-slippers We will be doing this on Thursday October 27th and Thursday November 3rd.  1 pm. to 3 pm.  This is a free pattern that you can download and print off the internet. You will need 3.75mm dpns. So if interested in joining us please let me know. Shetland Hap Shawl  This is a much bigger project . It is a beautiful Hap shawl made out of the Jamieson's Shetland  Spindrift that comes for the Shetland Islands.  There are two choices of pattern one is a big full sized square Hap shawl and the other is what she calls a half hap, which is a triangular shawl. Here are the links to look at the patterns. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hansel-full-version http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hansel-half-version As we will need quite a bit of the main colour of yarn for this, I believe 10 balls for the full size shawl or  5 for the half hap, I need you to let me know what colour you would like for the main colour as I might need to order in some yarn for us. For the coloured section of the pattern I am sure I have lots of colours here for you to pick from. No need to decide on  those colours right away as the whole middle section needs to be knit first. There are 3 sections to the pattern and none of them are hard, We will take it one step at a time. So if you are interested in doing this I would like to hear from you in the next week with your main colour choice so I can  place my order. I do have a mini version of the shawl here at the store , if you would like to see it. This is a  paid pattern  on  Ravelry, I can buy it for you or you can purchase it yourself. I am hoping to start this on Wednesday Nov. 16th 1 pm to 3 pm. if we have the yarn we need, We will continue on Wednesday afternoons until most of us are finished I have no date in mind at this time, depends on how fast or slow everyone is. More Hedgehog has arrived, with great new summer colours!!

GREAT NEW HEDGEHOG COLOURS

Hello everyone!    OK, so while I have not been to Ireland (YET!)...I really love it when the best of Ireland comes to ME!!   I can just feel the mist, hear the waves, see the green rolling hills and imagine the hundreds of sheep frolicking over those hills when I open the boxes from Hedgehog Fibres! ( OK, I have a vivid imagination!)   We have dozens of new skeins, both large and small. The little Sock Minis are so sweet, and then of course, there is the Silk + Merino roving, so ethereal and cloud-like that it just floats through your hands when you spin it.   The Sock Minis have 80 metres and are just perfect for heels and toes, they are machine washable with 90% Super-wash Merino and 10% nylon. The larger skeins are the same blend but with 400 metres to knit up into socks, shawls, or whatever strikes your fancy.   So stop on in, enjoy the bounty that has arrived from Ireland, and feast your eyes on the new summer colours that arrived as well..."Bounce"..."Fly".."Pinkie Swear" and "Heyday" ( don't you just love her colour names?!)   Happy Knitting!! New Yarn on the Block!!

NEW YARN ON THE BLOCK!!

Hello everyone,   Every once in a while, you need to shake things up!  And that is what we have done today at The Purple Sock....this Estelle yarn is taking over from a couple of other wool/acrylic blends that we have carried in the past. So, out with the old and in with the new.   I am glad to present "Estelle Worsted"  in these FORTY glorious shades!!    In 100 gram skeins with 200 metres, it is a bargain at just $8.99 ...just perfect for kids clothing, toys, your own sweaters, afghans..you name it, this yarn fits the bill.
