Hello everyone,    Once again, The Yarn Crawl is rapidly approaching...it starts on June 18th and ends on September 5th. There are 2 new shops this year added to the list!!   But the most exciting news is the introduction of this FABULOUS yarn  by Dragon Strings, a local dyer!! The specially dyed colour is called "Lakeside", and this tight twist fingering weight yarn has 600 yards of beauty to excite and entice you. There are many great patterns that you might find  for this superwash Merino/Cashmere/ nylon blend yarn, just take your pick! I have a great shawl in mind for my skein!!    "Lakeside" is available for pre-order now through May 31st.  This  150 g skein is $42.00. No deposit is required,  just send an email to me at lynn@thepurplesock.ca  and I will put it aside for you to pick up when you visit during the yarn crawl.     I will have a few more for sale during the crawl but you don’t want to risk not getting one, so order now!!     Looking forward to seeing you on the 2016 Yarn Crawl! Easter hours and a reminder about Izzy dolls for the Dominican

Hello everyone,   I just want to remind you that The Purple Sock will be closing in observance of Good Friday and Easter Sunday....March 25th and 27th.   I will be open on Saturday, March 26th for my regular hours from 10 AM to 5 PM.   And just another quick note...we are still collecting Izzy dolls and little cotton hats for  the little ones in the Dominican Republic. The nurses from Georgian College will be heading there soon, and it would be great if we could have just a few more...as always, thank you all for your kindness and generosity, these children have nothing and a hat or dolly from you would be so special. These need to be handing in by April 3rd to the store. If you missed the email with the links to patterns let me know and I will forward those to you.   Happy Knitting!   Lynn

Easter for the Kids and a Yarn delivery!!

Spring is coming and that means THE COLDWATER EASTER EXTRAVAGANZA!! Gather the kids,  for this fabulous event on Saturday, March 26th from 11AM until 1 PM.... There will be face painting, freshly popped popcorn, a Piñata, and of course, the Scouts will be there cooking hotdogs, yum!! Great fun for one and all!

On another note, another fabulous order from Hedgehog Fibres has arrived!! Wow, their mini 20 gram skeins of sock yarn are just delicious! Perfect for that special pop of colour in whatever project is on your needles...AND, lots more colours of Twist Sock have arrived, as well as their super lush wool and silk roving..like spinning with a cloud. New Drop Spindle Class at the Purple Sock! Workshop leader: Jane Steeve                      Making your own yarn can feel very satisfying and fun. In this, beginner  learn to spindle  spin class, you will learn the basic steps of using a drop spindle to create your own yarn. Instruction will  be given for learning the park and draft method of drop spindling to creating beautiful single plies of yarn. In the second class we will take those lovely singles and learn to ply your very own hand spun, creating a 2ply yarn and then we will set the yarn to make it ready for knitting or crocheting. No previous experience is required, fibre and spindles are provided as part of the class as well as a hand out detailing the steps learned. So if spinning is something you always wanted to try , come on out and give it a go. This is a great way to get started   at a very modest cost!!             Date:   Tuesday  April 19th 2016  and Tuesday April 26th 2016  from   1:30 PM  til  3:30 PM                        Fee:   $40.00 plus HST , this includes everything you need to get started.                       Space is limited so please let me know ASAP if you wish to attend by sending an email to classes@thepurplesock.ca

Nursing Students off to Dominican Republic again this year!!

Hi  everyone,

Many of you will remember that we have made Izzy Dolls and hats over the last few years for the Nursing and Early Childhood Educations students from Georgian College to take to the Dominican Republic.  Well it is that time of the year again!!

This April students will be again  heading there for a hands-on educational experience which will aid the poorest communities in
that country, bringing medications, vitamins and medical care. But even more than that, again this year  they hope to bring Izzy Dolls and  hand knit  sun hats.

So that is where you come in...if you feel like helping to knit,  choose whichever project ( or projects!) you would like to make and get knitting.

I do have a basket of some odds and ends of yarn at the shop if you are in need of yarn for these projects, just stop by and pick out some colours.

If you need stuffing for Izzy dolls I do also have some that was given to me.

Down below are several links for Izzy doll patterns and hats.   Or you can use any pattern you like the students ask that the dolls have dark skin features like the children who will receive them.
