This class is for anyone who has wanted to try
lace knitting. Basic Knitting Skills
required. We will be doing a very simple

start with a garter stitch tab and do a picot bind off. You
will need to bring 4mm circular needles at least 24” long. If you know you are
a tight or loose knitter you might want to bring a
couple of sizes to try to see what will work best for you. If you don’t have
needles I do have some for sale.
You will also need to purchase yarn for this
project which can be bought the first night. This shawlette takes one skein of

Getting Started on
Ravelry
Instructor: Tori Martin
Ravelry is a wonderful resource! This two hour
workshop will take you on a tour of the site's basic features. Learn how to
search for different kinds of patterns and even how to match up that yarn you
couldn't resist buying to a project that fits your interests! Or maybe you found
the perfect pattern and want to see how it looks worked in a different yarn than
called for. Discover how to create a project page to keep track of your
accomplishments and how to see what others are saying about the pattern or
variations they've made on it. Find out how to keep track of patterns you want
to come back to later. Get an overview of the forums and learn how to search for
groups you have things in common with.
Please indicate whether or not you are already
a member of Ravelry when you register. Those who aren't already members will be
e-mailed a how-to on getting registered so that once you've completed the
workshop you can start putting your knowledge to use right away. Hope you can
join us!
Fee:
$5.00 plus HST
Date:
Sunday February 16th 11 am till 1 pm.
Knit-along
for Monkey Jacobus
This is the
cutest little monkey I have ever seen , He is knit out a 50 gm ball of multi
coloured sock yarn starting at the head and
working
down the body. We will be doing this on Wednesday afternoons starting
February 5th. 1 pm to 3 pm. Please note this is a knit- along
not a
formal
class, we will be working on this little guy together helping each other figure
it out. He is knit on dpns or magic loop or two circulars.
You need to
be comfortable working in the round. There is no charge for this knit along but
I do ask you to buy your yarn and pattern for this project from me. The pattern
is a PDF download from Ravelry, so if you will be joining us for this let me
know and I will purchase a copy of the pattern on your behalf which will go into
your Ravelry library. No worries if you don’t use Ravelry you will also receive
an email with a link to the PDF so you can download and print it. You will need
two colours of yarn, one multi coloured for the body and a small amount of a
contrast for the face and hands and feet. Yarn can be bought the first day of
the knit along. Not sure how many weeks we will work on this, we will continue
to meet till most of us are done. I think it will be fun to see how different he
will look in different colours.
You can
look at him here http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/monkey-jacobus.
Please let me know if you will be joining us as space is limited.
Stranded
knitting or ” commonly callled Fair isle” fingerless mitts knit-
along
This will
start on February 13th. 1 pm till 3 pm. If you haven’t done
Fair isle (stranded knitting ) before this is a good place to start, these are
a simple 2 colour fingerless mitt done in a sports weight yarn. Even if you have
done Fair Isle work before please join us. I have several more stranded work
projects in mind after we get this simple one done, so this could keep us busy
for quite awhile!! There are so many great stranded patterns out there. We will
be learning to do the two handed fair Isle method. ( If using both hands is not
for you , we will talk about holding both in one hand also.) I am just learning
this myself, so we will be learning together. Like always this is a knit- along
not a class, we are all there to help each other. I have found a couple of
videos that give good information about the technique. The first week we will
pick our colours and practice knitting with our other hand. We will also work on
doing a provisional cast on, which is used at the bottom of this mitt. There is
no charge for this knit along but you are asked to buy your yarn here at the
store. We will need two skeins of yarn and we will be using Cascade Sport which
is $5.00 a skein. ( new to the store ) The pattern is free from Ravelry. So
you can download and print it before the first week. I would also suggest
bringing a 24” circular needle and scrap yarn, ( any weight) 2 colours to
practice with before we start the mitts. The mitts can be knit on dpn’s , magic
loop or two circulars, whichever you are most comfortable with.
Here is a
link to the pattern.
Please let
me know if you will be joining me for this as space is limited .
