Rug Hooked Jewellery with Jennifer Manuell

And a good time was had by all!!

That pretty much describes the workshop we just enjoyed given by Jennifer Manuell at The Purple Sock last week. Jennifer is a well known rug hooker http://fisheyerugs.blogspot.ca/,who has developed the most wonderful hooked jewellery...I just love the piece I made
( see photos!)...

We arrived Monday to a riot of colour in wool, yarns, sari silk, felted wool balls, beads, gorgeous threads and so much more! I think she brought enough stuff to fill her own shop, including a sewing machine that practically ran itself, lol!

Jennifer is an enthusiastic, creative, well-prepared and patient instructor...with nine of us gathered around two large tables, she quickly led us through the "basics" and then let us free to gather up our treasures in the colours we wanted. We were all focused on our projects, and were thrilled to see that, by the end of the first day, we had all completed our pieces!!

It is fascinating to me, as a knitter and a spinner, and a lover of all fibre arts, how easily they can all meld into one another. For although these pieces are "hooked"(as in rug hooking), it was wonderful to see how handspun yarns, ribbon yarns, novelty yarns and other bits and pieces, all combined with felted beads, glass beads and odds and ends of broken jewellery to emerge as something FABULOUS!

So,take a moment to pop on over to Jennifer's blog and don't forget that she is teaching here again in November! This time it is a stunning Christmas Stocking  that is certain to become an heirloom in your family....

Who knows, with the popularity of this jewellery class, I may just have to have her back in the spring!
Below are just a few photos of work in progress and some of the finished pieces!!
