Up coming classes

LETS CHASE AWAY THE WINTER BLUES AND HAVE SOME FUN AND LEARN A NEW SKILL!!

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all staying warm and cozy and are ready to learn some new skills. We have several different classes coming up and I am hoping you will find something of interest. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in one of the classes by email, as space is limited and I don't want you to be disappointed . The best way is to send me an email to either classes@thepurplesock.ca

Happy knitting to all!!

Lynn

"Adding Bling with Beads" with Cathy McCracken

We will be using a crochet hook to add beads to a pair of fingerless gloves. With this technique you
learn to  add bling to all your knitted items!

You can use double pointed needles, two circulars, magic loop method with one circular needle, or
one 9 inch circular, which ever you are comfortable with for knitting in the round.
These are knit on a 3.5mm needle, if you have some bring them, if not there will be some for sale.

This is NOT a beginner knitting class, you should be comfortable with using fine yarn while knitting
in the round.

The technique is quick and fun to learn and adds real glamour to simple gloves.
The pattern can be seen here http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/queen-lucys-fingerless-mitts

Dates: Wednesday, February 22 and Wednesday, March 1 from 6:30 to 8:30pm

Class Fee: $50.00  +HST which includes a 50g ball of yarn, .75mm crochet hook, beads and a printed copy of the pattern. Knitting needles are not included but can be purchased that evening.
Bring your tablet or smartphone so that we can add our projects to Ravelry!

"OH MY GOODNESS Short Rows" workshop with Cathy McCracken

Do you quake when you see the words 'short row' in a pattern? Look longingly then decide it is too
difficult? Well fear no longer! This class will introduce 3 commonly used short row techniques
(wrap&turn, Japanese and German) and which one might be the best to use. Tips and techniques for
taming those naughty short rows will  be discussed.

We will knit a funky pair of fingerless mitts using all 3 techniques for practice and fun. Please bring
2.5mm circular needles (24 or 32 inch length) as the mitts are knit flat and seamed at the end.

Dates: Wednesdays  March 1, 8, 15 from 6:30 to 8:30pm

Class Fee: $50.00  +HST which includes 2-25g balls of yarn, stitch markers and a printed copy of the
pattern.
Bring your tablet or smartphone so that we can bookmark a helpful free Craftsy class and add our
projects to Ravelry

"Toe2toe Socks" with Jane Steeves

You'll learn new techniques, and have fun creating new socks with colourful sock yarn!!

Toe2toe socks are socks knit with an after thought heel and toe. You just keep knitting until the base of the two socks is complete. Then you add the heels  and then the toes. This lets you just keep on knitting, and hopefully eliminate the second sock syndrome!

For this class you need to have  knit a sock before, and to be able to knit in the round, either on double points, magic loop or 9 inch circular  needles and we will show you the rest!

Dates:  Wednesday,  Feburary 21  and Wednesday,  March 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Class Fee: $30.00  plus HST  this includes the two classes and the pattern. We will have a selection of sock yarns for you to purchase ( either hand dyes by Jane or  commercialy dyed sock yarn ).   If you don't have needles, there will be some available for purchase that evening.
